We got great news on Friday afternoon. The biopsy pathology result was negative - no sign of residual cancer!
And we found out the functional tumor volume calculation from the MRI is 0.088, so pretty close to 0. My aunt says this is a 99.4% decrease, and it’s hard to get better than that.
All of this together means my next step is surgery, part 1!
That is scheduled for Wednesday, 9/16, and I have a few preparation appointments the prior week. We’re also still waiting to hear from my surgeon about how she wants to address the non-mass finding in my other breast. But we’re expecting it to be removed during this surgery.
I’m not out of the woods yet, pending if any microscopic residual cancer cells are found in post-surgery pathology, which my aunt says is possible. In that scenario, I would need to do some amount of chemo after surgery 1, before surgery 2. But this is really great news for now.
In terms of recovery, we’ve been told I won’t be able to lift/hold/handle Leo for about 4 weeks post surgery while I heal. That’s going to be very hard on many levels, practically and emotionally. We’re working through how to best handle that.
In the meantime, more meal train slots for during the surgery and recovery period will be posted soon.
