Denis and family
Dear friends,
I wanted to share some updates from our journey. It's been a little more than a month, and Denis has had 2 rounds of brain chemo and 1 round of body chemo. The symptoms are difficult, but manageable. The cancer has affected his facial muscles and his ability to smile- but I joke that “he’s still smiling on the inside.” From naming his Port-a-Cath (Porsche) where he receives his medication, to the stalwart way he was ready to shave his head, Denis has been looking forward with courage, steadiness and his characteristic dry humor.
The Eucharist has been a source of strength. You can see in the photos:
1. I am able to bring daily Communion to Denis
2. We had a backyard mass with Fr. Benedict Maria on the Feast of Pentecost
3. We attended our first in person mass together on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart
Everyday, God has been opening our eyes to the beauty of the holy ordinary and the joys in the lives of others. I have seen more physical and metaphorical rainbows in the last two months than in many years, and I know it's God’s way of reminding me of his providence and promises. There have been many hard days, both physically and emotionally, but we are so amazed by the love and support we have received from our family and friends.
Our Cancer Calendar:
• We are back in Houston next week for the next round of chemo. Until then, we are enjoying the little moments of being home.
• We have a big milestone appointment in early July to review scans and see if the treatment is working. “Scanxiety” - anxiety around medical imaging and results has been very real, and we ask for prayers for peace and trust as we wait for this.
