Denis and family
Hi all,
Lot has happened in the past few weeks so this update comes to you a bit late!
We have another significant update to share. Denis’ most recent scans show remission in both his body and brain. We are incredibly grateful for this news and for all the prayers, care, and support that have carried us to this point.

At the same time, because of the aggressive mutation driving his cancer, there remains a significant risk of a quick relapse. So while we celebrate this milestone, the plan for a stem cell transplant continues. For now, we are holding both things together—the joy of seeing the cancer respond so well to treatment, and the reality that there is still more road ahead.
Our family:
Over these past few months, we have been given so many small moments that have felt surprisingly big.
One of the sweetest parts has been watching the World Cup together. Soccer has always been one of Denis’ favorite things, and it’s been so special watching him share that love with Ella. She quickly became a passionate Messi and Argentina fan after only a month of watching—making Argentina’s loss heartbreaking for her, but her enthusiasm was incredibly entertaining for us! Seeing them bond over something he loves is a memory we’ll hold onto for a long time.

We also celebrated our 10-year anniversary. It was a very low-key celebration, but perhaps that made it feel even more meaningful. We were able to be home, spend time with family, and simply be together. Ten years of marriage feels like a significant thing to pause and give thanks for, especially in a season when so much of life has been stripped down to what matters most.
We somehow also managed a last-minute Onam celebration. Denis got to enjoy sardine pasta on a banana leaf while the rest of us enjoyed Indian food, which felt like a pretty accurate representation of our family these days.
A friend of Denis’ came to visit from Bangkok, and it was incredible to see how much his presence lifted Denis’ spirits. They even managed to go on a hike together—a small thing that felt like a big deal after so many months of hospitals, treatments, and limitations.
There have also been harder moments. We ended up in the ER with a fever and pain, and had to make the drive to Houston to be admitted. It was a frightening and exhausting few days, but looking back, we can see God’s care woven through every step of getting us there on time and making sure we received the right care before starting his next round of chemotherapy. There have been many moments throughout this journey when we have felt that same quiet providence—sometimes only recognizing it after the fact.
Over Labor Day weekend, Ella and Jolly’s parents were able to visit us. Ella got to spend some time with us at the hospital, and Jolly took her out for plenty of park and ice-cream dates.
One of the sweetest things right now is seeing movement slowly return to Denis’ face and the beginnings of his familiar smile. He needed a very specialized rehab therapist for his facial paralysis, and incredibly, the one specialist in all of Texas who works with cases like his happens to be just 15 minutes from our home. Thank God for these little signs of healing and the ways He continues to provide!

What’s next:
At the end of September, we will be moving to Houston for the remainder of the year as we prepare for and go through the stem cell transplant. There will be a lot of unknowns in the months ahead, and we know this next part of the journey will come with its own challenges.

We are incredibly grateful, though, that some of the practical pieces have come together so beautifully. Dear friends have offered us their home in Houston, giving us a place to stay while we go back and forth to the hospital. Having a comfortable home base close to the hospital will make such a difference for all of us, especially during what will likely be a long and demanding season.
So we are heading into this next chapter with a mixture of gratitude, hope, uncertainty, and trust. We don't know exactly what the coming months will hold, but we know we don't have to walk through them alone.
Thank you for continuing to journey with us, pray with us, care for us, and make room for our family in your lives. We feel that love in more ways than we can possibly express!
Love,
Jolly and Denis

**Just a reminder: We are incredibly grateful for all the financial support we’ve received so far! We’re still receiving larger donations through this platform, but for those who prefer to give directly and not incur higher processing fees, the Zelle account Jolly’s dad, Joseph John, is still active. You can use the QR code or his number: (956) 252-3092. We’ll continue using this website for support as well.
