Still Healing: DeeDee’s Journey Continues

Greetings, everyone —

Just wanted to share a quick update on our girl DeeDee, courtesy of her mom Kem.

First, the good news — her new besties, Megan Kensley Barr (kidney) and Morgan Penelope Barr (pancreas), are settling in beautifully! The doctors ran a scan yesterday to confirm everything is functioning properly, and both organs passed with flying colors. We’re celebrating every win — and this one’s a big deal.

That said, the past few days have been tough. DeeDee has been in a LOT of pain — the kind that brings tears and wears you out. Despite the care team’s best efforts, they haven’t been able to get it fully under control just yet. Because of the discomfort, her appetite has dropped off significantly. Yesterday, she could only manage two spoonfuls of soup, one saltine cracker, and just enough juice to swallow her meds.

Today, she’s scheduled for a procedure to remove her Permcath — which is actually a great step forward. (If you’re like us and had to Google it: a Permcath is a special type of long-term IV access used for dialysis. Now that DeeDee’s new kidney is doing the heavy lifting, it’s no longer needed!)

The transplant team has been incredible — staying on top of every concern and continuing to monitor her closely. They’ve been compassionate, thorough, and totally in her corner.

Please keep lifting DeeDee up in prayer and sending those good vibes. Healing is absolutely underway — Praise God!!!

With gratitude,
