Deedee Barr
As of Monday, Nov 11th, DeeDee has been admitted to the hospital to address serious complications from her ongoing health challenges. She went to the hospital with chest pain and high blood pressure, which caused fluid to build up in her lungs, making it difficult to breathe. Because of this, she had to be admitted to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) at Emory Decatur Hospital for close monitoring and urgent treatment.
During her stay, her care team has been addressing several issues, including:
- High Blood Pressure:
DeeDee’s blood pressure was dangerously high, which put stress on her heart and lungs. This led to a condition where fluid filled her lungs (called pulmonary edema), making it hard for her to breathe. - Kidney Disease and Dialysis:
DeeDee’s kidneys don’t work on their own due to End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). She depends on dialysis treatments to remove toxins and excess fluids from her body. Her dialysis has continued daily while in the hospital. - Breathing and Lung Issues:
The fluid in her lungs made it harder for her to get enough oxygen, and doctors have been monitoring her closely to ensure her breathing improves. - Blood Sugar Challenges:
DeeDee has Type 1 Diabetes, and her blood sugar levels were very high when she arrived at the hospital. The doctors are working to stabilize her levels. - Other Symptoms and Care:
DeeDee has also been dealing with digestive issues and a low level of salt in her blood, which her doctors are managing with medications and treatments.
Despite these challenges, DeeDee remains in good spirits and is eager to return home. She is making progress and could be discharged soon to continue her care and dialysis from home.
We’re asking for your continued prayers, love, and encouragement for DeeDee during this difficult time. She is strong and resilient, but your support helps her keep going. For past updates on her journey, visit her Facebook page: DeeDee’s Journey 2024.
