Waiting
David Burke
David was finally discharged on Wednesday 4/24 from the hospital after the shunt surgery. He was discharged with IV antibiotics and a number of additional medications to keep the infected stents relatively stable.
The doctor wants us to stay in the area while we wait for liver transplant. If the antibiotics stop working or something else comes up, our surgical team at home is not equipped to handle it.
We don’t have a scheduled date or time for transplant surgery. We are waiting for a call, day or night, for a deceased liver donor. We have no control of how long we will wait here. We know the B list is short for the center he is listed at, but there are other transplant centers in the region with B blood type patients on their list with higher scores than David.
David gets his labs drawn again tomorrow, and we are hoping some numbers have increased to give him a few more points on his MELD. The appeal for the exception points has been submitted, but we haven’t gotten a response from the board yet.
We decided to fly the kids out when David got out of the hospital last week. My parents arrived with them on Thursday. Having them here has been a blessing after a long week in the hospital! My parents and the kids will fly home Tuesday and visit again after transplant when David is out of the hospital.
David definitely doesn’t feel good right now…Flu-like symptoms, nausea, extreme fatigue (due to poor bile flow and stents not working). On top of recovering from a major shunt surgery and 8 nights in the hospital of not great sleep. So, we have been very thankful for this time outside of the hospital to try and recharge for the next surgery and see our kids! We are hoping for a call sooner rather than later for a liver. I’ll do my best to post on here when he’s officially in surgery!
Thank you all for the love, prayers, and thoughtful messages! We are beyond grateful for all of the love and support. ♥️

My prayer for you comes from God's "now speaking voice". "But I will sing of your strength, in the morning, I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God. Psa 59:16-17. Gracious Father we ask for Your perfect will; the desires of our heart is that David will have the transplant soon, very soon, we implore You - Soon. Amen. For Your Glory
