Exception points
David Burke
Hi all,
We’re still waiting for a call!! David’s symptoms have improved greatly over the last week and he’s feeling a lot better in terms of recovering from the last hospitalization and surgery. We are so grateful for that!
I was able to go home last week for a few days and bring the kids back to Utah. The kids were excited to fly again, and we are very happy to be all together! We finally got a long term Airbnb so it's nice not to be moving every 5-7 days from place to place.
We've spoken to David's surgeon a couple times and they have actually declined a couple blood type B livers for David. They didn't feel the livers were healthy enough for him. We are hopeful for a good offer soon!
The best news is that late Saturday night, David got notified that the appeal for exception points finally got approved! That means his score jumps from 14 to 26 (the score ranges from 6 - 40, higher score being the ones who get the livers first). A score of 26 puts him in a much better spot to get a healthy liver! Exception points are not common, and he of course did not meet the typical criteria to receive them. So we are very happy the board took the time to review the complexity of the case, and they actually all voted unanimously to give him the points! With the higher score locked in, our hope is for a call sooner rather than later.
Thank you to everyone helping with our kids, bringing meals and gifts to our kids, sending us treats and gift cards, mowing our lawn, getting our mail, watching our dog, driving our car out here, checking in on us… your prayers and all the support we have received leaves us extremely grateful and it has all been so helpful when juggling all these things! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
