Update from the Daniel Wiens family

I know that so many have been wanting to know about the trip to MD in Houston, and to say it’s been a lot would be an understatement. The trip itself was overwhelming, it wasn’t fun, (we did get to stay with our friends so that brought comfort). We went to Houston with the goal of getting a plan to get Daniel healthy again, to stop his body from growing this mutation of colon cancer. While there we met with Dr. Hu he went over his type of cancer and the mutation, and how there is a trail that Daniel could be a candidate for. We left feeling hopeful, nervous, overwhelmed, optimistic, terrified, and also ready to be with our kids. We got an earlier flight and home and got to watch Cooper and the Teutons beat Marion. Monday we called the Cancer Center as Daniel was having headaches and dizziness. By Tuesday we were in Dr. Pages office hearing that the cancer has spread to several spots in the brain and need to get radiation treatment soon. While there MD called Dr. Hu, let us know Daniel was a candidate for the trial, but once he was told of the brain scan it no longer makes him a candidate. BUT Dr. Hu at MD and Dr Page have a treatment plan with the two types of chemo that have been proven to fight the mutations he has. We also met with Dr. Bryant for Cyberknife radiation, he was fitted for the head piece that he will wear for treatments.  So this week we will get back into chemotherapy schedule as well as radiation.

🧡 just loved that Daniel was back on the chains for the first half of game on Friday (only had to sit by his loud wife 1/2 game instead of all 4 quarters)

This is a lot for all of us. I’m going to ask to please remember:
1. Our littles know that dad has to get back on the medicine again. That’s all. Leave it at that, we are trying to not make things more scary than they already are.
2. When we are at our children’s events and games we are there to watch them and their teams. So please be respectful of that.
3. We appreciate and would absolutely lost in all of this without all your support, good vibes, positive energy, prayers, and help keeping our lives going. We truly have the most amazing supportive family, friends, community. 💙
