Dana had her neuro-oncology appointment at Duke today - her first time going without me, which she was understandably nervous about - and we got another incredible report. Praise God. Truly all great news!
There are still some post-treatment effects showing from radiation, chemo, and immunotherapy, but there is absolutely no sign - neurologically or on scans - of any tumor growth. Any symptoms she’s experiencing (brain fog, fatigue, occasional headaches) are consistent with post-treatment effects or stress, including the very real “scanxiety.” The doctor reassured us that this is completely normal for patients in the trial, and even mentioned that some patients use stimulants to help manage the fatigue and brain fog, which is something they’re recommending we consider next.
I can always tell it’s going to be a good visit when Dr. Batich walks in smiling. She is truly amazing - so calm, reassuring, and thoughtful in how she approaches everything. She told us we are absolutely on the right track and that the treatment is working, and that Dana’s body has handled it beautifully so far.
I also asked about the CEGAT trial Duke plans to participate in - they’re still a few months away from that, but she said she would absolutely bring it up if it becomes something Dana could benefit from. For now, she made it clear: what we’re doing is working.
We are so grateful and relieved. Time to breathe a little - we get to relax for another month.
