A Powerful Day at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Cancer Center: A Glimpse of Hope for Dana
Today, we had the privilege of visiting the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Cancer Center at Duke to meet with the incredible team about Dana’s latest Grade 4 Glioblastoma diagnosis. And wow, what an experience it was. From the moment we walked into the building, we were greeted with an overwhelming sense of care and support that went beyond our expectations.
Every single person we encountered – from the intake nurse to the PA to Dr. Batich, her neuro-oncologist, and the radiation oncologist – made us feel like we were the only ones there. It wasn’t just about “treating the tumor” – they focused on treating Dana as a person. The team took the time to outline a clear, individualized treatment plan that is tailored specifically to Dana’s case. They considered every aspect of her health, her unique situation, and how to give her the best possible outcome for long-term survivability.
What really blew me away was how they work seamlessly with our local providers. Dr. Batich is in direct contact with Dr. Ney from Anschutz, and knowing that these experts are collaborating together, each bringing their own unparalleled expertise, truly made it feel like a match made in heaven.
Walking out of that office, I felt a deep sense of comfort and confidence knowing that Dana is in the best possible hands. We’re surrounded by the world’s leading experts in GBM, and they’re working with us as a team every step of the way.
Now, it’s time for the next chapter. We’re heading back to Colorado, ready to take on the next 6 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. I know Dana is fully equipped to crush this.
Cancer picked the wrong family to mess with. Let’s do this. 💪
Special thanks to the Oppenheims for driving out from Virginia to be there in support of us and for @rhondastein and Dad for taking care of our sweet boy back in Colorado so we can focus on this much needed visit. And thank you Mom (@ginnytoll ) for hanging out with us on FaceTime for the full visit!
