Cruz's Healing Journey
Life has been moving fast, and I haven’t had a chance to share some of Cruz’s recent appointments… so here’s a little catch-up!
Because of his increase in seizures, Cruz’s neurologist squeezed us in for a virtual visit while I was traveling. We don’t have solid answers yet as to why they’re happening more often, the likely cause is that he’s growing and his medications aren’t as effective. We’re making some small adjustments in hopes of getting them back under control.
The moment I got home, we packed up and headed straight to the children’s hospital for his 1yr follow-up from brain surgery. Hard to believe that just a year ago, Cruz went through three major brain surgeries in less than six weeks. It feels like yesterday and a lifetime ago all at once.
He had an MRI of his brain to check his shunt, and I am so thankful to share that it’s functioning perfectly!! No fluid build-up at all! His neurosurgeon was thrilled and doesn’t need to see him again for a whole year. What a blessing and a huge relief!
Now that I’m finally back home and catching my breath, we’re shifting focus to the next steps. In November, Cruz is scheduled for a two-week therapy intensive in North Carolina thanks to all of your generous donations- the full cost of the treatment was raised!!! (still working on lodging for that trip).
Looking a bit further ahead, we’re also researching stem cell therapy with hopes of starting early in 2026. It’s going to be a big undertaking, but I’m filled with hope for the independence and quality of life these treatments could bring Cruz. I will be sharing in the upcoming days and weeks, what the doctors we talk to say and the costs we will be fundraising next for!
Big things are on the horizon. God is moving mountains. This mama may feel a little overwhelmed… but my heart is also overflowing with gratitude and excitement for what’s ahead.
Your love, prayers, and support mean the world to us! We are truly grateful for you all!
