My first update

Hello everyone, we have been blown away by all the love and support through this whole process and we can’t thank you all enough. 

To give some background, Annie was diagnosed with FAP, a condition that causes polyps to grow in her GI tract when she was 16. She had a major surgery to remove an effected area and has been battling with trying to stay on top of things by modifying her diet and getting many checkups. It’s been manageable up until last July when they found a large concerning polyp. In October they attempted to remove it and it was mostly successful, but by doing so caused a lot of scar tissue. During a follow up appointment in April they discovered pre cancerous polyps under the scar tissue, out of reach for normal removal. Since then, it’s been a quick roller coaster of figuring out next steps, getting multiple options, and trying to figure out a plan for recovery. 

We made the decision for her to get ileostomy surgery. It was a hard decision but in the end it was what was best for her and our family. Unfortunately, with the surgery comes heavy restrictions during recovery. For the 6 weeks after she won’t be able to drive, exert herself, or lift anything over 10lbs. Sadly that means our girls. She also leave her work and won’t be able to work until restrictions lift. It’s going to be a long 6 weeks with Lainey wanting lots of snuggles and Emmy wanting to play and be active. But Emmy has been amazingly supportive and understanding her mom is getting a “button” and to be gentle.
