Three weeks out

Christyna doesn’t know that I’m writing this. When she gets the notification of a new update is when the jig is up. I got only a lil bit o’ time to tell this. Let’s get to it.

Today was the three week check in with the surgical teams. I’ll share the second appointment, first, which was with the breast cancer surgeon. All is good! The mucinous carcinoma was the size it was expected. Christyna will be taught how to self examine where and how the remaining breast tissue. A double mastectomy only takes away so much and the little-left-over breast tissue will need to be monitored for cancer. They got all of this, but let’s be safe... There will be a six-month check in, then annual check ins for 3 years. Easy stuff.

Secondly, the first appointment was with the reconstruction surgical team. Christyna met with the PA and the final drain was not removed. We meet with the surgeon on Monday afternoon. We’re looking at what is next in the recovery and reconstruction. Christyna may get hyper oxygenated in a hyperbaric chamber! (Hyperbolic maybe, it’s late and I’m sneaking this update in bed and I’m being lazy and not looking it up. They want more oxygen rich blood flow, ok.) That was the treatment option that caught my attention. This was explained on a call with the team that I was ear-hustling. I figured I’ll get the info in full in Monday, and Christyna will probably (I’m praying she does, personally) give an update.

The ante-event, which I’m dropping in third, is that I sublet the washing of my hair on Christyna’s head yesterday. Her hair stylist (who also has gorgeous curls, so I knew I could trust her with my hair on Christyna’s head) insisted Christyna come. I can do good maintenance, but I know when to call in a specialist. My hair on Christyna’s head was extra floofy today, as you can tell by the cover photo, due to the washing yesterday. I actually took that pic early this morning before I made breaksfast. It was delicious! The breaksfast not my hair on Christyna’s head. Back on track.

Finally the overarching event I am telling, well, finally. It’s been a big week. I get to drop Christyna off at a canning party, I think, on Saturday. I’m not invited! Christyna will get to supervise and contribute to the process of preserving food. It’s organized through the local coop (and I pronounce it like a “chicken coop” and you’re not gonna change that even if you print it “co-op.”). Hair washing, multiple doctor appointments, canning, work, life, and recovery, just to summarize the week. We are still here. Christyna is still kicking ass!

Now, Christyna is gonna get an alert and I’m gonna get a call from the other room. I can’t wait until she’s able to sleep in bed again. She’ll be able to pinch me without me having to get out of bed. When she calls, I will go, even if there are punishing pinches to pay. But, man, it’s gonna be soooo nice to stay in bed to get them when I post without notice. Here’s to a good Monday meeting!

Hyperbaric chamber = high pressure & super oxygenated

Hyperbolic = rhetorical device characterized by obvious and gross exaggeration

Ex. You are soooo dead after you let me out of this chair in the morning!

TeeHeeHee- but seriously, thank you for sending an update. It’s taking me longer to metabolize this leg of the adventure (to be able to write about it) than I would have hoped for.
