Today was a BUSY day!
We started the morning with oncology and finally got a little more clarity on Christian’s treatment plan. His last day of radiation is October 8th, and he’ll have an MRI on October 15th to give us a new baseline for the tumor.
About 4–6 weeks after radiation, they plan to start his first oral chemotherapy. If he tolerates it well and the side effects aren’t too bad, they’ll add a second oral chemo about two months later.
Then we rushed back to Cleveland for radiation. While Christian was there, the doctor told me they’re going to make him a new radiation mask because his current one has become just too tight. They’ve already made all the adjustments they can. Christian was actually pretty happy about getting a new one because the steroids have made his poor body—especially his face—SO swollen, and that mask has become incredibly uncomfortable.
After radiation, we headed back to the Ronald McDonald House, where the hospice social worker came to check on us. She is absolutely amazing and is working on finding a foundation that might be able to grant Christian some type of wish. Unfortunately, his age makes it difficult because he has aged out of many of the organizations that do this. But she’s not giving up, and neither are we.
While she was here, I got a call from the radiation team letting me know that radiation is canceled tomorrow so they can make sure his new mask lines up perfectly with the tumor.
So…we get to come HOME for the weekend—a whole day earlier than expected! We’ll head back to Cleveland early Sunday evening.
That means FAMILY TIME.
Memory-making time.
Time together at home.
And through all of this, we just want to say THANK YOU.
