Jamieson Family Health Journey
It has been six months since that early February CT scan in the Emergency Room revealed cancer on my pancreas (neuroendocrine tumor confirmed 3 hours later on an MRI). That inadvertent discovery while was I sick with other things has become the blessing God used to preserve and even enrich my life!
I wanted to visit you all today and give an update with our deep thanks for your prayers.
This past Monday I had my first post-surgical scans and labs. I am absolutely delighted to report those CT scans (chest, abdomen and pelvis) look terrific! It was truly marvelous to learn: “No evidence of recurrent or metastatic disease.” And I have never been so happy to see the word “unremarkable” appear so many times throughout the report. Surveillance will continue every 6 months for at least 10 years. I am trusting God for the opportunity to hear these same words and phrases many more times — hopefully for the rest of my life.
Also, the scan suggests my postoperative pancreatic fistula has healed too. Although I have been having some vague sensations radiating from my diaphragm, the CT showed no fluid pocket, abscess or persistent leak. This is fantastic and was very reassuring.
I still have those two very tiny nodules in my lungs that have been there for a while. By all accounts, it is believed those are benign — likely just scar tissue from when I had pneumonia. (Those did NOT light up on the PET scan and they have not changed at all since that February CT.) They will keep an eye on them simply because that is wise to do but not because there is any concern. All of that feels good to me.
A couple of my labs are “off” but nothing concerning and likely not even related to the cancer. For example, my ferritin is a bit low and my lymphocytes are mildly elevated. Otherwise, my digestion, glucose and stable weight are all suggesting that my pancreas is keeping up despite being half its original size. I am not taking anything for granted though and aim to spend the rest of my life praising God for health and being kind to my body.
I am learning important things and have a lot of thoughts and feelings about this whole experience. There will be ways and times for some of that sharing. But most of all today, I simply want to shout out how very very thankful my family and I are.
The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy! — Psalm 126:3
A couple of other areas where we would appreciate prayers…
- CARLY will be having an outpatient visit to the hospital as soon as they can get her scheduled for some urgent dental work, x-rays and cleaning. All of that requires general anesthesia for her. (Last time was April 2024.) Please pray the Almighty Scheduler coordinates this in merciful timing despite a months-long wait list. She is in pain.
- LARRY is healthy and feeling well but eager to reestablish his fitness routines. With numerous things limiting his own self-care in recent months, he needs to get back to cardiac rehab too. His medical team is working to get the orders renewed and insurance to approve a few more sessions. He is very happy when he doesn’t have to drive to the clinic for workouts but the monitoring they do is important and helps guide what brings safe and optimal progress.
Have a blessed weekend, family and friends! We love you all very much.
PS — The photo below shows how Carly spends much of her summer chill time at home (on the deck splashing, with bubbles added if she gets bored and parents need more rest). :)
