~Creating a safe, durable outdoor space for daily care needs~ The current decking/railing has reached the end of its usable life and needs to be replaced. For Carly, outdoor time—especially water play—is a meaningful and regular part of her daily routine. For a number of very practical reasons, the only place she can safely “splash” is on our deck. Because of this, the replacement would use composite materials that can withstand consistent moisture and provide a safer, longer-lasting surface. We could choose to power wash and re-stain the existing deck this year as a short-term solution. However, this would only delay a full replacement by a few years and would not address the underlying issues of rot and deterioration that are a constant threat they’re chasing. The labor required for this temporary approach is comparable to what would be needed for replacement, making it a less effective long-term use of resources. We have already received a materials quote and have been very generously offered help with labor, which significantly reduces the overall cost. Moving forward now would allow us to address the issue fully rather than in stages. Goal: Approximately $17,000 for materials ($12,000 for decking, $5,000 for railings) (Labor has been generously donated.)
