She fell. And I couldn’t be more proud.
Let’s think about. Where is Camilla most likely to fail from?
The couch? Nope.
The bed? Nope.
The bean bag? 💡ding💡ding💡ding COOOORRREECT
Whenever Camilla rotates or readjusts, she does so by arching her back and wiggling. Every arched back makes her scoot a little closer to the edge. Before you know it, she’s silently scooted to the edge and is hanging on by half a cheek.
Because I’m aware of this reality (duh), I’ve been practicing falling out of the bean bag with her. Rather than doing a final big arch and 💥WHAM💥smacking her head on the ground, we’ve practiced ✨falling safely✨. Shes been practicing doing little half crunches to slowly shift her weight into her bum, then slide down onto the go round in her bum, crunch to sit, put her hands down, and do a controlled fall onto a forearm, then roll to tummy, then roll out.
Yeah. It’s a process.
Her nurse just told me that she looked over at Camilla and watched her carefully crunch at the edge of her bean bag, land on her bum, and crunch to a full sit👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Her nurse rushed over to help her get down the rest of the way safely, and I could not be prouder of Camilla for assessing the situation and having the confidence and control to respond safely.
