Our sweet Cal Pal is one of the absolute happiest little guys you will ever meet! He loves Ms. Rachel, The Happy Song, his siblings, naps, and walks (but only when the weather is perfect!).
Calvin has been through a whole lot in his short life. He went into sudden cardiac arrest at only one month old and suffered an anoxic brain injury. This led to several health impairments, including spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy. After his injury, he spent the next 10 months of his life in rehab facilities before being brought to ND to be surrendered under ND Safe Haven law. This is when our family entered Calvin's life through foster care last June and eventually leading to adoption in April!
From the moment he entered our lives, we have been advocating tirelessly to ensure that Calvin receives absolutely everything he needs to thrive and live his best life possible. Being "only" his foster parents made this difficult at times, so we were very relieved when our adoption was finalized and we were able to be the sole decision makers for Calvin's needs.
While researching ways to best support Cal, we discovered DMI therapy! A ground breaking intervention that helps kids who are delayed in gross motor skills. At almost 2 years old, Calvin is still unable to sit up, roll over, or even hold up his head. Being able to gain improvement in these areas would be life changing. One of the most well known and respected clinics for this therapy is AKAP (All Kids Are Perfect) in North Carolina.
Unfortunately, this therapy intensive and all the related travel expenses will not be covered by insurance. We are also working with an advocate on applying for several grants to help cover some of the cost.
We are humbly asking for the support of our friends and family to make this opportunity possible for Calvin. We know that flying across the country for two weeks, while also continuing to care for and manage 4 other kiddos back home, won't be easy. But we know that it will absolutely be worth it and we also know that God will provide.
As the trip gets closer, we will also be using this SupportNow page to post tangible needs, such as meals and other ways to help our family while we are away.
