Brea Murphy & Family
Brea began her maintenance phase on 6/23/25 for chemo. This phase is necessary for her initial severe diagnosis of T-cell Non Hodgkins lymphoblastic lymphoma. It is around 18 months in length and has the purpose of avoiding relapse by continuing to give the body chemo therapy drugs. The level of the drugs is supposed to be less severe in nature and this is usually a very good recovery time for patients. For example, Brea's hair is growing back. Brea did start to increase in strength again and even got to a hitting lesson for softball.
However, she is dealing with complications. She did have her gallbladder removed 6/5/25 with no big post complications.
However, she developed fatigue and jaundice symptoms out of nowhere starting mid-July. On July 15th, she was admitted back to the hospital with cholestasis (slowing of bile through her system). Imaging showed that there is a significant narrowing of her main bile duct in the liver. After several days of medication only slightly improving her symptoms, Brea had a stent placed in her main bile duct on 7/18 (Friday). She is now being monitored post-op to make sure that her body starts to respond by showing a reduction in bilirubin. She also has to start IV antibiotics because it is considered that she did have an infection/irritations around that bile duct because bile was stuck and the duct was inflamming and dilating to try to move the fluids.
Our family has been traveling back and forth to always have someone with Brea. Thankfully Kristen is still on break but Bryan is missing work. Everyone is also trying to help Kyler with his final preparations to move and start at Iowa State University next month. Please send thoughts and prayers for us all to be together and home soon to enjoy the rest of summer!
