BEElieve In Benny
We have been so busy with Benny boy! đź’›
We wrapped up an intensive at the end of April in Kansas City, got new glasses, and started patching his right eye 1–2 hours a day to help strengthen his left eye. He also got new AFOs because he’s growing like a bad weed! We’re also now discussing eye surgery to help his eyes come together better. Ultimately, it would help improve his vision and hopefully eliminate some of the frustration we see from him related to his vision struggles.
One huge praise — vomiting has been slim to none for the past 6 weeks. 🙌🏼
And some of our biggest wins lately… Benny has started laughing 🥹 and even hollering at us when he hears you but can’t see you. These are HUGE wins for him, and we don’t take a single one for granted.
Coming off Keppra and Gabapentin has been hard on his little system, and he’s still having a harder time regulating. We did just increase his Clonazepam to hopefully help with that. I truly didn’t want to, but after a few hard weeks, I realized the doctor was right on this one and his nervous system needs the extra support right now.
We have our second opinion appointment for his hips in July, and we’re praying that brings more closure and answers before committing to any surgery!Â
We leave on Mother’s Day for Indiana again for a 2-week intensive with Beelievability at Reins of Grace Hippotherapy Center, focusing on DMI and feeding!
Benny’s second round of stem cells is officially booked for September. Looking back since December, when he had his first round, we’ve eliminated 3 medications and have overall seen such great progress.
Benny’s journey will never be linear or one-size-fits-all. It’s a combination of therapies, prayer, consistency, doctors, treatments, and so much advocacy that helps him keep making gains.
After Indiana, we plan to take the summer off from big trips and focus on weekly therapies, slowing down, and enjoying time with sisters for the summer, we will just be at the ball field or lake instead!Â
Our faith and your love have truly kept us going through all of this, and we are so thankful. Thank you for continuing to pray for Benny, encourage us, support us, and walk alongside our family through this journey. We truly couldn’t do it without you all.
