🌟 Benny’s Next Big Step 🌟

This Sunday we’re loading up and heading to Indiana for Benny’s next intensive! This one is just a week long, but even a week apart from home can feel tough on our hearts. The girls are already counting the “sleeps” until we are back, or how long they can sleep in my spot lol and while we do our best to ease the transition, it’s still a big adjustment for everyone. 

Travis will be staying home with the girls since school is in full swing, and my dad will be making the 9-hour drive with Benny and me. With Benny’s medical needs and the monitoring he requires (especially with his vomiting), traveling alone just isn’t safe — so I’m grateful for the extra support. Flying isn’t realistic for us with all that Benny needs, so driving continues to be the best option. 

On top of preparing for this trip, we’re celebrating a huge milestone: Benny is now completely off phenobarbital (one of his seizure medications)! 🎉 He has done absolutely amazing with this transition, and we are so proud of him. 💪💖

Since coming off the medication, we’ve noticed more irritability — but also something incredibly encouraging: Benny’s startle reflex is back. He now startles to noises and big movements, something we hadn’t seen since the incident. While it may sound small, this is actually huge! It means his body is responding in new ways, and we can help him integrate this reflex so he learns that when things happen, he is safe. Bedtime has been a bit of a 4-hour process some nights 😅, but we trust that this too shall pass.
