Antonio has been admitted since December 6th,
September he had labs done which came out with high protein levels and microscopic blood in his test. His hemotology team suggested he get a biopsy. I asked if this could be a cause of his bone marrow transplant five years ago. They said it could be. On October 16th he had a biopsy on his kidneys. The end of October we got results back with a diagnosis of Stage 4 lupus nephritis. Which his kidneys are getting damaged. The symptoms he has had have been nausea getting swollen from his face his legs on and off. Hemotology team and the rheumatologis team suggested cytoxan (chemotherapy treatment) which they use for lupus nephritis. A 6 month infusion admission dose. Which means he will be admitted for 6 months, every month two days depending how he feels. His first dose was done November 8th we went home and he was doing good. Two weeks in he started with nausea, zofran relieved him. Then the vomiting really started a couple days before his second dose of cytoxan. Through out that month he was so resiliant didn't miss any days of school pushed threw like a warrior that he is.
On December 6th we were driving to the hospital to check-in for his second dose of cytoxan. It was gonna be a straight admission check in at 9am to the 5th floor. As I was pulling up to valet he started throwing up and his stomach started hurting. They called me from his floor that his room wasn't ready to go home and come back. There was no way i was gonna drive him back like that. I decided to check him through the ER and they took us back right away. They did labs and told us his kidneys function was abnormal. His blood pressure is evaluated not in the normal range. His calcium was low. And he keeped throwing up until he got zofran through it all he got diarrhea. It was not the morning we expected. We were in the right place at the right time. They moved us up to his room around 9pm.
