Stephanie and the Baker Family
We are all so grateful for your prayers and support. From cards to calls to texts to paintings to soups to donations to flowers to other little (and big!) sprinkles of joy or offers to help, thank you thank you for this incredible silver lining.
I feel so lucky and so very loved.
Most of the days are joyful and we are living close to our typical lives, with vacations and camping and time with the kids and 1 billion playdates and events. We had two birthday celebrations for July Baker kids and also a silly birthday for a fictional character too (Percy Jackson on 8/18 - delightful - they're only young-ish once). The kids are so resilient and they are doing much better than we ever expected.
But to be transparent, this still stinks. Especially the hair loss because I generally feel healthy and it's a visual reminder that somehow I'm not. I'm not bald yet (maybe not until the next phase of treatment in October?) so I'm rocking the otter 'do with a wide range of mediocre hats and wigs. Some days I feel extra sad and frustrated and it's harder to emulate my self-adopted motto (Gratitude, grace and grit). The nights are hardest when things are quiet and minds can wander. Prayer helps. Looking at your cards and visual "hug" notes help! Reading to distract and watching cycling with Jim or Gilmore Girls with the big girls helps. Remembering the success of so many before me helps. And knowing that it's okay to feel the full range of emotions as we all process helps. And we are already two months down.
