Alertness & Progress:
- Awake Time: Austin was awake for a few hours this morning! Getting those solid stretches of alertness is always so encouraging to see.
Respiratory & Neuro Storm Updates:
- Neuro Storms: He is currently experiencing "neuro storms" (also known as paroxysmal sympathetic hyperactivity). These occur when the nervous system temporarily misfires during the brainβs recovery and waking process. They can cause spikes in heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and breathing rate, as well as times where his breathing drops very low.
- Pressure Support: To support him through these fluctuations and keep him safe and comfortable, his pressure support remains set at 12 since he is having some difficulty breathing consistently on his own right now.
His body and brain are working overtime to heal and process everything right now. Thank you all so much for your continuous prayers, strength, and love as he works through these heavy days!
