Breathing & Medical Milestones:
- Trach Mask: He was put on his trach mask at 8:00 AM and was still breathing on it after 2:00 PMβholding steady in the lower 30s! Β That is a little high but want it under 40.Β
- Final Drain Tube Trial: They clamped off his last remaining head drain to see if his body will naturally absorb the fluid. They will monitor him closely over the next 24 to 48 hours. If he doesn't tolerate it well, they will unclamp it and evaluate him for a VP (ventriculoperitoneal) shunt, which would be a permanent tube that drains brain fluid into the stomach.
- Procedure & Vitals: His trach was changed out today. His vitals look great, swelling remains stable, and fluid output is sitting between 13 to 26 mL. He had a slight fever up to 101Β°F, but medications brought it right back down.
Therapy & Physical Progress:
- Positioning: They sat him up in bed today to build his core and lung strength. Tomorrow, they plan to try sitting him on the edge of the bed (with assistance, of course!).
- Therapy Reactions: He showed responses during Speech Therapy, and in PT he responded mostly on his left side with a little bit on his right. OT starts tomorrow!

Physical Wins: He gave my hand two hard squeezes when talking to him! He also had a lot of head movement and plenty of deep yawns.
Fun Moments & Sensory Stimulation:
- We did a "bacon cheeseburger" scent stimulus test, which got a slight response! π
- He sneezed when I brought out my perfume ball!
His mom gave his fingernails a good trim today, loll. Hopefully no nail polish on his fingers. π³
