Here is today’s update on Austin:
Medical Updates & Care Plan:
-Medications: His doctors are increasing his dose of Amantadine to help stimulate his brain and support his recovery from the TBI. He also received a dose of potassium this morning.
-Nutrition: They started his feeding tube today (he wasn't receiving since they did his surgery, to reattach his scull)
-Breathing: His ventilator settings were decreased, and he is breathing more on his own—taking about 18 to 24 breaths per minute! 🥳 🥰
-Vitals & Monitoring: His intracranial pressure (ICP) is looking great at 13–14 (normal range is 7–15). His temperature hasn't gone over 99°F in two days! 🎉
-Neuro Checks: The neuro team is checking on him every 2 hours, and his nurse is doing checks every hour. Pupil movement remains unchanged.
-Hygiene: He did not enjoy having his teeth brushed today!
Therapy & Bright Spots:
The therapist encouraged visitors to come by, talk positively, and bring up good memories to help stimulate his brain. We had some wonderful moments today:
-He actually held onto the therapist's phone while she had music playing. He seemed to really enjoy listening to Brantley Gilbert!
-Best of all, when Penny (the work dog) was brought up, he showed excitement by having a lot of left-hand movement!
Overall, there are no major new changes—we are staying the course and continuing to move forward step by step.
Thank you all for the continued love, support and prayers!
