Allison’s Cancer Journey
Surgery went just as planned. Allison was in good spirits coming out of recovery and had a pretty good afternoon overall. She had all the pacu nurses laughing since she was adamant that everyone show her how to do the duggie. She even said no one could come into her room without showing her their dance lol so silly, and it really kept everyone smiling afterwards.
She currently has two catheters delivering pain medication directly to the main nerves in her leg, along with a PCA pump and some oral medications. Even with all of that, the pain is starting to break through. She went into this feeling very determined to move forward quickly, but as the pain has set in, she’s understandably feeling a bit more unsure. We’re hopeful her pain can stay well controlled so she’s able to rest and begin healing.

She has a knee brace in place to keep her leg fully extended, as her surgeon explained that allowing it to bend too early can make it difficult to regain full extension later on. She said it actually feels good to have it on though. It has to stay on for 2 weeks. She isn’t able to get up yet until she’s seen by physical therapy, and since her surgery was later in the day, they won’t be able to work with her until tomorrow. That has been a bit challenging. However, through it all, Allison’s resilience continues to amaze me and I am thankful to be able to watch her grow through all of this.
Goals for going home are pain control and being able to get around safely on her own. Prays for pain control, continued encouragement and just that she would feel safe communicating what she is going through would be much appreciated.
