Allison seems to be responding well to the antibiotics, but her ANC still remains low. We were hopeful they would still let her go yesterday with their new protocol about blood counts for solid tumor patients, but they said she's no longer considered "low risk" because she still has the active infection. The wound looks worse and worse and they told us it will likely continue to look worse as the immune system recovers and sends white blood cells etc to the wound to repair it. That will cause more swelling and drainage etc. They are also concerned that with the return of her immune system an abscess may form which then would have to be drained. There's always the risk that the infection will still spread as well, and without an immune system that risk is higher. For that reason they are making her stay. 

Allison is understandably upset, we have been here a full week now, and no idea when we will be able to go. Her pain got a little out of control yesterday when they took her off of everything and just did a small dose of oral pain meds trying to get her home, but since we are staying they started the PCA again and she is much more comfortable although still not feeling great. Her ANC and other counts have stopped dropping, so hopefully that means that her body is starting to recover. 

Prayer requests would be that Allison's immune system starts to recover, that she wouldn't have a reaction to any of the antibiotics, and that she doesn't need any kind of surgery but that the wound would recover on its own. Soon! And that her mobility wouldn't suffer from her being in bed so much with this infection.
