After conducting an additional CT scan to investigate her fever, they found mom has an abdominal abscess. Amy and mom just met with the surgical team, and the recommended course of action is to proceed with surgery to drain the abscess. Waiting and trying a different antibiotic has no guarantee of success, and the team explained that performing another surgery would not be possible after the next few days. There is a specific window where the risk increases with multiple surgeries. The infection is causing bacterial sepsis and she is weak so the surgery is the best course of action right now.
Mom is trying to stay positive despite being understandably tired of the hospital. She’s focusing on resting as much as possible. The continued prayers and support from everyone mean so much to her and the family. Hopefully, this procedure will put her back on the path to recovery. Afterward, she can begin rehab (given how much time she’s spent in bed) and ideally return home within the next 7-14 days.
Amy and I are balancing life and being with mom. Amy took time away from the hospital Friday and I did yesterday which helped a bit because being here 6-12 hours a day gets exhausting.
