Dear family, friends, and everyone who has been holding Alexis close in your hearts and prayers,
Happy Sunday! We are so thankful to share this update: Alexis’s lobectomy surgery, which took place on Friday, is finished, and it went incredibly well.
Dr. Antonoff was able to successfully remove all concerning tissue, including the entire middle right lobe and part of the lower right lobe. Alexis tolerated the procedure beautifully; minimal blood loss and no complications. The biggest hurdle is behind her, and we are incredibly grateful to God and to the skilled team who took such good care of her.
Getting through the surgery itself without any issues is a huge, huge victory and Alexis is now in the midst of recovery, which is going extremely well.
Today’s big step forward: Alexis’s chest tube has been removed! Soon, possibly even later today, Alexis will be discharged. From there, she’ll spend the next few nights recovering at a hotel with Rich and Patty, who have been her rock throughout this whole process. Then, they'll begin the drive back to Kansas City, making sure to stop every two hours to stretch and walk around to help prevent blood clots.
Chris and Alexis are so grateful for every single prayer, message, thought, and kind gesture you’ve sent their way. Your love and support have truly carried them through these past weeks, and they feel it more than words can say. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We’ll keep you posted as they head home and as Alexis begins the road to healing, one day at a time.
With love, gratitude, and hope,
Chris, Alexis, Rich & Patty (and the whole family sending love from near and far)
