While everyone is excited for their children to be back at school (including Alexis and Chris!), this time of year creates a new challenge for their family. While a sniffle or a cough is typically no big deal for most, during treatment, even a small virus can be extremely dangerous for Alexis’s immune system.
Last week, Alexis was hospitalized following exposure to a simple virus she contracted just 24 hours after her second round of chemotherapy. The physicians have asked her to be very cautious during the first two weeks post-treatment. This is when her white blood cell count will be at its lowest, making her immune system susceptible to any type of illness.
While they are adjusting to each new challenge on this journey one step at a time, they couldn’t do it without your support and love! As we move into the fall, keeping Alexis safe during these weeks will become even more critical as strep and flu season begin.
In order to take extra precautions, we ask that if anyone in your family has any type of illness and you've volunteered to help with a meal, ride for sports, carpool, etc, that you please consider finding an alternate date to help. Keeping Alexis healthy and home with her family is our top priority.
