Hello everyone,
I’m sharing this update on behalf of Aisha and her husband, Shaun, to keep you all in the loop about Aisha’s treatment journey.
Aisha and Shaun are feeling positive about their transition from Kaiser to UCSD. They’ve met her new oncologist, Dr. Zhang, who is not only extremely knowledgeable but also incredibly kind. Dr. Zhang explained that Aisha’s current treatment plan is the standard approach for stage II to III invasive triple-negative breast cancer, with a 64% chance of achieving a complete response. If the cancer is still present after six months of chemotherapy, Aisha will move on to a different round of chemotherapy and may also participate in a clinical trial.
Today was a significant day, as Aisha received her first infusion at UCSD, and I’m happy to report that everything went smoothly! She has been encouraged to use ice packs on her hands and feet to help prevent neuropathy, which is great news.
As a union organizer for UCSD, Shaun was delighted to see the nurses and staff diligently following the proper protocols.
One more piece of good news: Aisha will no longer have to endure the endless search for good veins for blood draws and treatments, as she is scheduled to have her surgical port placement on the morning of January 15th. This will centralize access and make treatment a lot easier for her. No more human pin cushion!
There is so much to be grateful for, and Aisha and Shaun appreciate all the love and support they’ve received from each of you. Together, they’re taking it one day at a time and feeling hopeful about the journey ahead.
Here are some photos of Aisha and Shaun today at UCSD!
With warmth and gratitude,
Olivia
