Help Angie & Adam After Major Accident
Today was different. I have been posting and sharing from afar. This morning, I left for Birmingham. I was greeted by big smiles from Angie and Adam.
Angie is in an immense amount of pain. The downside to being a teaching hospital is watching them try for an hour to get an IV started and giving up. They want to get the central line out of her neck soon but cannot do that without another IV started - she currently has three IVs.
I got to hold Anaya a lot. I rested her head on Angie’s leg and with her fingertips on her right hand, Angie was able to hold the bottle to feed her daughter. All of the nurses love seeing Anaya but Angie and Adam want her home with her pups and away from the hospital. She is now sleeping peacefully in her bassinet. Louie and Turbo (the dogs) are sleeping soundly as well.
Angie was starving when it was time for dinner. She and Adam shared a meal of chicken strips with BBQ, macaroni and cheese, French fries and a cosmic brownie that Angie loved. But they didn’t just share a meal. They worked as a team. Angie would tell Adam which bite she wanted and he would feed her. It was incredibly painful and beautiful to see at the same time.
We are hoping at this time that the driver at fault has an active insurance policy. We talked with the social worker today and a lift will have to be installed to get Angie into and out of bed. They are going to come to the house at some point and install all of this equipment. She will get a wheelchair to get around the house in. The doctors told us for now that she will not be able to bear any weight on her legs or lift anything with her arms for several weeks. We do not know anything about when a move could happen. She is still in the Trauma ICU. In home care will happen when she does get to come home. She can move her feet like a rockstar though!
Tomorrow is a new day. A step forward. Fingers crossed that each day is even just a tiny bit better than the day before.
