Help Angie & Adam After Major Accident
Finally - the elusive shower chair has arrived! Rather, the second ordered shower chair arrived. The first is still MIA. But the second?? Set up and USED today! Angie's first actual shower since Adam's birthday on 8/8. No more sponge baths. No more wet wipe baths. Time for LONG, HOT showers - obviously for two, but a hot shower none the less.
I just got off the phone with Angie and Adam. She had the best shower and feels amazing! They were able to get her in the shower and cleaned up relatively easily - score for finally ordering the right shower chair! Since they have a lifting bed, Angie is going to attempt to sleep in that tonight. She is very excited!
A few days ago, my sister said, "Maybe you should make an Amazon wish list for people who want to send something that Angie needs". I had no idea. You, my friends, my family, complete strangers, are amazing! I was googling things like: Items to help someone with one good hand and came up with a list of 20 items:

A few days ago, my sister said, "Maybe you should make an Amazon wish list for people who want to send something that Angie needs". I had no idea. You, my friends, my family, complete strangers, are amazing! I was googling things like: Items to help someone with one good hand and came up with a list of 20 items:
- Window Blinds - Are blinds a necessity? No. But Angie has to be wheeled in from the dining room, through the kitchen, and into the bathroom to use the bathroom or shower. While there are blinds in every other room of the house, there are none in the kitchen. And we can see the neighbors outside clearly through the window - which means the neighbors can see straight in.
- A button/zipper puller? Absolutely. Our neighbor who had a stroke uses hers every day to get dressed.
- Scar creams? 100%. We might say that scars are cool and make us who we are. But we may also want to lessen the look of the redness or the dots left by 42 staples in an upper arm. or the three, 5" scars on her forearms from stitches.
- Spray face serum, toner and lotion? Can I get a "Heck Yeah!". Angie loves makeup and skincare. Always has. Always will. Why would I get these things? Until an unknown point in the future, Angie has one hand she can use. Not two. Sprays like this make her more independent. She is doing her routine by herself.
- A hospital table? Didn't figure we would need one of those - but Adam removed the leaf (and latching hardware) from their dining table to stretch across the hospital bed. Lifting 30 lbs multiple times a day. And using a small printer stand at her chair to go across her lap when she sits in the recliner. The great news is this is wheeled and can be used in their bedroom, in their living room, and at the hospital bed as well. It also means that soup or cereal or any other food or drink will be on a nice, balanced table!
- Grippy socks - well, who wants to keep those ugly, shapeless hospital socks and wear them? Not Angie - she wants cute, comfy socks. And she has to have the grippy bottom for obvious reasons.
Those are just a few of the items I added to the list. And you came through. Like champions.
One more favor? Check your car insurance policy. Reach out to your agent. Add Uninsured Motorist coverage to your policy. I hope none of you ever need it. While it may save a little money now to go without, in the long run, it could cover you in an event like this. The driver at fault had a suspended license. At this time, it appears that there was no insurance on the vehicle that caused the accident. While Adam and Angie did have liability coverage on their car, they didn't have Uninsured Motorist coverage.
I'm going to be angry for a minute (or longer, depending on your reading speed): Angie may only have limited use of her left arm. Through no fault of her own. Forever. Like the rest of her life kind of forever. And that isn't fair. Not to her. Not to Adam. Not to Anaya. She has had to endure intense pain. The emotional rollercoaster she is going through is intense, I am sure. Hearing her daughter cry, knowing there is nothing she can do. Having to watch her fiancee strap her into a sling to move her from one room to another, or change her bandages, or help with bathroom needs. Having to be dependent on everyone for everything. And she still smiles, and laughs, and thanks everyone for what they are doing for her.
She has a new outlook on life - and you are a big part of that. Again, thank you for everything - my friends, my family, and those I have never met.
