For those of you that want the story, lemme give you a little rundown.
Thursday night after dinner, Trina just couldn't get comfortable. We make the realization that she's having regular contractions and head over to UoM HW in Wyoming. Once there the OB team pretty rapidly assessed Trina and got transfer set up to Butterworth as they were preparing for imminent delivery, and James would require NICU if he were to come early. A couple hours pass, Trina gets an ambulance ride, and it's pushing shift change day shift to come in. Just as one of the day shift physicians is speaking with Trina about the warning signs of "it's happening" ... it starts happening. It's 0700, dayshift and nightshift L&D nurses and physicians are now in the room, the entire Neo Natal ICU team is present as well, and James makes his way into the world after 20 or so minutes of pushing.
He sucks at breathing, but is otherwise crying, he's pink, warm, and moving all the limbs.
Without getting totally into the whirlwind of emotions, it was by far the most terrified/anxious/exhausted we've ever been. The rest of the day is just a surreal experience - getting acclimated to the NICU, trying to be back and forth as Trina is obviously still admitted on another floor, thinking about everything that can potentially go wrong as the Neonatologists are saying to not expect discharge before his due date.
Thankfully the team was great at recognizing the anxiety and assuaged a lot of the fear. James has been on a CPAP mask since delivery at this point, receiving TPN, but that's really all the complication that delivery day brought. Eventually exhaustion kicked in after
After all was said and done that very long Friday, we're finally parents.
