Torvin's Life Changing Therapy
Week three has been a week of noticing small shifts, especially in how Torvin is communicating and engaging.
He’s been using new phrases more frequently, asking things like “How does it work?”, “What do I do now?”, and “What does this say?” At one point I pulled out a map, and he was interested in the legend. It seems like he may be starting to recognize some very simple words, though we’re just observing and paying attention for now.
There have also been a few moments that stood out in their specificity. He sneezed and then said, “Excuse me.” He knew the name of an indoor playground he likes—one we didn’t know ourselves. He’s begun naming his animals, often coming up with his own creative names.
These feel like subtle changes in how he’s organizing language, attention, and expression. His ability to communicate and articulate continues to evolve in small, day-to-day ways.
We’re also noticing some changes in how Torvin is organizing his body. I usually prop him into sitting with a folded blanket under his hips and support behind his back, setting him where I want him. The other day, after I did all of that, he adjusted himself into position.
His feet, which are often clenched and crossed, have begun to relax at times and look more natural in how they rest. We’re paying attention to these moments without trying to interpret them too quickly—just noting how his body is responding.
For now, we’re staying grounded, observant, and curious. Taking things as they come and letting the days speak for themselves.
Grateful for this time, for this child, and for everyone who makes it possible for us to be here doing this work.
