Family By Choice: Rallying Around Elly's Healing Journey

When Shaun and I found out about Elly's breast cancer diagnosis, our reactions couldn't have been more different. I immediately went dark with worry, while Shaun was trying (and terribly failing) to lighten the mood with humor. It's remarkable how life brings people together who balance each other perfectly. Though Elly and I didn't grow up together, I actually "stole" best friend status from Shaun! She has become one of those essential counterweights in my life.

They say a best friend who becomes family is someone who knows all your flaws, struggles, and mistakes, yet still stands by you with unwavering love. They're the person who walks in when others walk out, who shares not just the celebrations but the heartaches too. Elly has been this person, not just a friend by choice, but family by heart.
Over the years, our families have grown extraordinarily close, weaving our lives together through countless memories, shared holidays, and supporting each other through life's ups and downs.

To this day, we remain in awe of Elly's remarkable faith and strength throughout this ordeal, her courage is truly inspirational. On May 14th, Elly took her first step toward healing with surgery, but the journey ahead will be challenging. I know without doubt she has the inner strength to face what's coming, but she needs our community now more than ever.

While constant prayers are essential, there are many tangible ways you can help support Elly and her family during this time:
  • Preparing a meal
  • Helping around their home
  • Running errands when needed
  • Simply checking in on Elly regularly
  • Contributing financially to ease their burden

Even with insurance, they're facing costs that no family should have to worry about while fighting for health and recovery. Every contribution helps lighten the load they're carrying.

If you can help in any way, whether signing up for a meal, sending a thoughtful message, or making a donation, I know they would be grateful beyond words. Please keep them in your daily prayers. Your financial support will help cover Alex's time away from his new job as he cares for Elly, out-of-pocket treatment expenses, medications, childcare, and everyday bills while Elly is unable to work. If you're unable to give financially, please consider sharing this link with others or sending a note of encouragement that Elly can read during difficult days.

The road ahead will be long and challenging, but Elly faces it with incredible courage and unshakable faith. We serve a God of miracles, and we are praying for one for this precious family. Scripture reminds us that "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1).

Let's come together as a community to be the tangible expression of His love and provision.

Thank you for standing with this beautiful family. Your generosity, prayers, and love mean more than words can express. We believe in miracles, and we believe in the power of community, especially when that community becomes family.

Love,

Brittany and Shaun Fishman
