A Personal Update from the Heart

I want to share something personal and important with you. On April 15th, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I never thought I would be in this position, it’s a moment that has shaken, but not broken me.

I trust in God’s plan, even when it’s difficult to understand. I’ve felt His nearness in the fear, the decisions, and the quiet moments. I’ve held tightly to Psalm 91:4

“He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.”

Even when my heart is overwhelmed, I know exactly where my help comes from —and who takes care of and protects me.  My help comes from the Lord.

I’m grateful beyond words for my husband, Alex, our parents, sisters and brother in law; and the love and prayers of family and friends. I would be so thankful for your continued support and prayers.

My surgery is scheduled for May 14, and that will be the first step in what will be a long journey. After surgery, I’ll begin chemotherapy, radiation, followed by reconstruction, and then several years of medication. It’s a lot to walk through — but I know I’m not walking alone.

Many people are asking what they can do or how they can tangibly help us during this time. There’s a section for sign ups on this site for meals, spending time with Elly and an area where you can make donations.

If you feel led to pray specifically, here are some ways we’d love for you to join us:

  • That Alex and I would glorify God in every decision and every conversation, keeping our hearts rooted in faith and unity.
  • There is a 10% chance I might not need chemo. Please pray for wisdom.
  • That our boys would be brave and resilient, and feel secure and surrounded by love even in uncertain moments.
  • That Alex’s work would continue to be understanding and supportive, especially as he has very limited time off in his new job.

Thank you for walking with us. Thank you for praying. Thank you for reminding us that we’re not alone in this.

With love, faith, and deep gratitude,
 Elly

Elly-
I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. I will continuously have you in my prayers. God loves you, Alex, and the boys. Don’t let this rob you of your joy, but daily trust God, as you are doing. He will give you, peace, joy, comfort and love.

Sending love and prayers,
Lorna
