Asa reacted to one of his chemo meds and went into anaphylactic shock this afternoon. He went from screaming to turning purple—his nurse ran in the room and hit the "all staff" button and immediately stopped his chemo drip. The room was quickly filled with around 20 medical staff rushing to Asa's aid– they gave him an epinephrin shot in the leg, flushed his port, gave him oxygen, and monitoring his vitals. Austin stood by, watching...praying. Praise the Lord and thanks to the quick action of the staff here, Asa is ok and breathing again. He eventually calmed down enough to enjoy a popsicle. I'm thankful I was not there to see it all take place.
Over the past few days Asa's appetite has been pretty low and he has not been eating much. Two things he loves eating though are green beans and eggs and the occasional Skittles and Honey Buns. He's on steroids which should make him hungry but the combo of other meds counteract that side effect.
Asa developed some sores on his hand, arm, and leg this week which led to a visit by Dermatology, tests being run, and a move to a new "pressurized" room to prevent any possible contamination to other patients and he's not been able to leave his room. His test results came back negative for anything contagious so his lock-down has been lifted.
Asa is mostly done with his treatment and is close to moving into the recovery portion of this stay. Recovery will last for about 2 weeks. However, the allergic reaction he had today will set him back some, but we are unsure of how much at this point.
After the day he had today, Asa is looking forward to eggs for breakfast while watching church online with his dad by his side.
