Yesterday was Kat's first birthday. Where did the time go?! We spent the day painting a birthday plate to begin a new tradition with her. I also spent the day reminiscing on how far she has come. Those first few months were incredibly hard. It was so difficult to see the positive during some days.
Today's update is a simple list of the things she couldn't do but now is doing as a reminder of how strong our girl is, thanks to time, love, and the therapeutic support she gets:
  • Wouldn't eat from a bottle - now she drinks from a straw AND eats purees and soft solids
  • Hated being moved - now she absolutely loves movement, especially shimmying
  • Threw up 6-7x per meal - thanks to the G-tube she only has reflux 2-3x daily
  • Refused tummy time (screamed enough she'd throw up) - now she attempts to roll herself onto her tummy and tolerates it for ~15-20 minutes!
  • Couldn't hold her head up - still a work in progress, but currently has a personal record of sitting independently for 5 minutes in PT!
  • Didn't respond to sound - giggles at all kinds of noises, including when I play piano to her
  • Screamed bloody murder from 6pm until 2am - sleeps through the night and often has baby "zoomies" before bed, consisting of giggle fits

There are so many more little accomplishments she continues to make, but these stuck out to me. We are always in awe of her and can't wait to see what this next year has in store for her success story!

For her birthday, we're asking our friends, family, and followers to please share her page and story. Help us celebrate with everyone you know! ♥️🍰
