The Stallard Family
It was a medically busy weekend for us. Friday night, Abigail suddenly started throwing up stomach acid and continued through the night. While Devin was at work Saturday morning, I took her to a pediatric urgent care. Thankfully, she tested negative for everything. The doctor felt she needed an increase in her anti-acid medicine. We also started her on some baby food through her feeding tube. She’s tolerated it well and hasn’t thrown up since.
Yesterday evening, the kids wanted to play outside in the backyard. Devin went out with them, and then all of a sudden I saw him rushing into the house with Abigail, her face covered in blood. We immediately called 911 since we couldn’t tell how bad the laceration was. Once the ambulance arrived, we went to our small local hospital where Abigail received 3 stitches. The cut was deep rather than long, but she handled the ER visit like a champ and already seems back to her wild self.
Looking ahead, we are headed to CHOP on October 15. After all the testing, Devin and I will be praying together about which hospital we should transfer Abigail’s care to. As many of you know, we’ve been at a standstill with UVA. Earlier this summer, during a family meeting, they shared that Abigail has become too complex for them—especially regarding her airway—and that it was time to seek care out of state with hospitals that specialize in complex airway cases.
Going out of state isn’t easy or cheap, even after insurance covers part of the bills. Just yesterday, we received our first bill from Boston for Abigail’s June visit when they examined her airway. Our portion is $3,000 out of pocket. Please continue praying that God will open doors and provide a way for us to cover the ongoing medical bills. We’re also praying that we can organize a benefit event, and I’m currently reaching out to businesses for support.
Thank you, for your love, prayers, and encouragement. We’ll continue to keep you updated as we walk this journey with Abigail.
