Below is the latest Caring Bridge update for Lydia. We are also sending it by email below because some people have had trouble accessing Caring Bridge and we want to make sure you all have the latest information. Dear Friends and Family,
We can’t thank you enough for the support you have given us through Lydia’s triathlon of chemo, surgery and radiation. We are sad to share that Lydia’s cancer journey is not over. A recent full-body PET scan revealed that her breast cancer has spread to her bones and she is now in stage 4. The scan results revealed hot spots of cancer cells in her hip, femur, spine and shoulder blade bones, as well as in the mastectomy bed and the lymph nodes in the center of her chest and along her clavicle. Her treatment plan moving forward hasn’t changed that much. She will be undergoing endocrine therapy and taking medication to stop all estrogen production in her body, which feeds the cancer, as well as a drug that stops cancer cells from dividing. They are also adding an osteoporosis drug to keep her bones as strong as possible. She will be getting full-body PET scans every three months and blood tests monthly now to determine how her cancer is or is not progressing and responding to the medications.
We wish that we could have shared this news with each one of you individually, but our time and energy is limited as you can imagine. Thankfully, our network of family and friends is strong and you are a valuable part of that! Lydia is feeling good a lot of the time. She has developed some aches and pains that are likely attributable to the various medications. So, when she feels good, we are taking advantage of that and spending quality time together as a family. Meadow got her learner’s permit and started as a sophomore at a new high school. Also, Ocean started college at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. So there has been a lot of change in the Soleil house. As Lydia likes to say, “Life keeps on life-ing.”
How can you help right now?
Love and support is what we need most right now. Our dear friend Christine Ristaino will be reaching out on CaringBridge for things we may need in the future. Feel free to call or text us to connect. We will continue to post updates here as we get them.
Much love from us all,
Dave, Lydia, Ocean & Meadow
