Here’s the final score: Mary 3, Dylan 1 

This time 24 hours ago, my Dad and I were saying goodnight to Mom as she recovered from her transplant surgery. 

We arrived at the hospital at 1:30pm. At that point, Dylan was already in recovery, with one kidney going strong, and the other jet-setting to Rochester.

When his kidney arrived, her doctor took another look, deemed it transplant worthy and then Mom’s surgery began. 

She was in the operating room from 4 pm - 8 pm. A kind nurse named Dan was responsible for calling us every 90 minutes with updates, which he diligently provided. Everything went smoothly. Dylan’s kidney started working immediately, and they stitched Mom up with three kidneys inside. 

(Amazing, right?!)

Today, Dylan went home with Christina, after just over 24 hours at the hospital. 

We’ve been sending each other pictures and regular updates. 

Mom is expected to be discharged on Saturday if her progress continues on pace. That’s two days earlier than we expected. 

They are both on the road to recovery.
