Hello to the Sears’ friends and family,
We cannot believe the kindness and generosity that so many have shared in support of the Sears family! It is so humbling. We are also grateful for the SupportNow team whose help has been invaluable during this difficult time.
From the perspective of a friend, it seems impossible that we have endured just over ten days without Michael (Garrett) here with us. There is still a part of our minds that simply cannot believe it.
Simultaneously, we have felt our hearts widen, our gratitude for people/appreciation for small moments deepen, and also felt a renewed desire to live as Michael did- with generosity, humor, adventure, love and a healthy dash of silliness.
Here is an update from his obituary on upcoming services:
“Funeral services will be held Monday November 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Family and friends may visit Sunday November 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fruit Heights City Hall, 910 S. Mountain Rd. where all are welcome to attend, have refreshments, and share stories, laughter, and love in his honor.
Michael’s last resting place will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery.”
On a fun personal note, a couple months ago, my husband and I took a moment to express our gratitude to Michael for his presence and influence in our son’s life. We told him what an incredible young man he was and thanked him for being such a good friend. My husband remembers that he considered for a moment, got that infamous quiet smile on his face and then looked up and said, “Thanks. I appreciate that.” We were so impressed by the maturity and thoughtfulness of his response, especially for a 16-year old. Even most adults I know struggle not to quickly dismiss or disregard a compliment.
