The Rule Family
March 8th, 2025 we got the complete honor to gather together in Scottsdale to celebrate Rocky and his beautiful life. The past five weeks have been full of so many emotions—tears, memories, moments of joy, and so much processing. It’s been a reminder that grief doesn’t have a playbook. No one can tell you how to mourn your child or plan a celebration of their life. How do you possibly sum up a life as special as his in just one gathering?
But somehow, the celebration exceeded all our hopes and prayers. We were surrounded by the most incredible family and friends, and it felt like the very embrace we needed. We focused on not only his life, but how he impacted others and it was so beautiful.
Rocky will always be a part of our hearts, our thoughts, our days—and we will grieve him forever. Thank you so much to those who showed up both near and far.
We wanted to share the gratitude letter that we wrote and had read at the celebration. As you all know, words fall short when we're trying to encapsulate the deep blessing and meaning of our community.
We want to extend our deepest thanks and appreciation to our community, both near and far.The love and support you have shown during this time have touched our hearts in ways words can hardly express. For all the people who were loved by Rocky, and those who loved Rocky, coming together to celebrate his life in one place is so incredibly meaningful and special.

Our family and friends have carried us through the joys, the hardships, the heartbreaks, the ups and downs, and the celebrations. Your presence in our lives, in both big and small ways, has been a constant source of comfort and strength. We could not be more grateful to each of you.
Each prayer, card, dinner, coffee (Lord knows we needed that!), thoughtful gifts, flowers, and all the love you’ve shown have been immeasurable. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to the medical teams in Spokane, Seattle Children’s, and now Phoenix, for their dedication to Rocky’s care. Our Ryan House community, Hospice of the Valley and physical therapist—thank you for showing up for us with kindness, compassion, and expertise.
A special thank you goes to our in home nurses, Kayla and Alma, for the countless hours they spent caring for Rocky, giving Jessica and me the time to rest, recoup, and even enjoy a few precious date nights. Your love for him was evident, and we are forever grateful.
As we reflect on this time and our community, we are reminded of the words from Psalm 9:1:
“I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.”
With all our hearts, thank you. Your support has been a light in this journey, and we are truly blessed by the community around us. We love each of you! Forever changed, forever grateful.
