Judah had a BLAST in Children’s St Louis learning some new equipment. We’ve picked a more effective gait trainer for him, and will soon be pursuing a manual wheelchair.
The gait trainer is a Crocodile. We picked this one because the support is minimal, but he can easily move it by himself. We will have to make minor alterations to it to meet him where he is right now, but it will be a very good option to grow with him also. He walked a ton this week!!
The wheelchair is a multi-purpose idea. He is growing out of our stroller, and is much too smart and strong for an adaptive stroller. A wheelchair means he has an alternative method for mobility. He has show some promise being able to self propel, it’s just a super hard skill for him currently. We know Judah will walk, but he may tire easily or may have issues on bumpy ground, so the wheelchair will help close the gap for him. Even now, it would be a no-carry option to take him to appointments. He’s getting big and heavy!
His g-tube site looks great! He’s tolerating feeds well. He has put on almost two pounds.
-sneaky extra update-
We did receive a call from Total Wellness. We turned down this first appointment offered to us at their recommendation. Dr P likes for there to be three months between g-tube placement and stem cells. If we treated him now, there’s a higher likelihood that the stem cells would go to work on the surgery site and not his brain. So we’ll be patient and wait a bit longer. This does mean that we’re at the top of the cancellation list though, so I would say there’s a high likelihood that we’ll get to go in the next few months! Very exciting stuff!
