Brandon update:
The weeks since leaving the hospital have been good and bad but overall he’s healing on schedule. Staying at a friend’s house for 2 weeks post-op gave him the chance to catch up on sleep (a lot of it since he was sleeping 12-16 hrs a day)! In the last few weeks he had a few issues with infections but was able to have his drain removed and along with getting off most of his medications, was a major turning point in his bodies ability to heal faster. He continues to walk daily and has been building up from 1 mile a day to 2-3 miles…still a far cry from the 50 mile bike rides we know he wants to be doing. His energy levels are increasing and most importantly he’s been able to start eating more types of food and enough of it to sustain him each day. But he’s lost over 30 lbs since his diagnosis, which he continues to claim means he is back at his college weight. We’re still following a limited diet and he’s staying away from red meat, fried foods, anything greasy, and raw vegetables to keep from gut pain since his system can’t handle these well yet. Great news from this last week - his blood clot is gone! Brandon & Erin have been overwhelmed by the kindness of their neighbors, family, friends, church, and so many from afar during this very difficult time and want each of you to know your servant hearts, acts of kindness, and intense prayers have made this so much easier to navigate through. The recovery process for Brandon’s surgery is said to take at least 90 days but they feel he’s on track.
