For years I've wandered the terrifying mental maze called OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). It's been dark, friends.
But just as my gentle Shepherd, Jesus, has walked with me through OCD, I also see him kindly abiding with me through cancer.
During some of my darkest days of mental illness, I'd ask Stephen if God would love and care for me "even when ____________?" filling in the blank with my greatest fear at that moment.
Stephen would always answer, "Especially then."
Stephen's insistence upon God's unconditional love, forgiveness, and acceptance felt like a lie. But, as I leaned the weight of my soul upon it, I found he was telling me the truth. Jesus really would hold onto me, especially when my greatest fears were realized.
This past week was another "especially then" moment--only with cancer as the enemy. Even when the chemo threatens to undo me, will God be there? Yes, especially then.
God answered your many, many prayers and made Days 4, 5, & 6 better than previous times. I was still nonfunctional with fatigue, but the ick wasn't there, and I wasn't completely incapacitated. Thank you for praying!
I was again helped this round by the IV hydration, a more preemptive approach to taking medications, and some practical things like drinking bone broth to keep me hydrated and to add protein to my system.
You guys are also proving to be faithful friends as you are with me even when the cancer battles drag on. Especially then.
