Gestational age: 42 weeks, 6 days
Day of life: 126
Beckett: 7lb, 3oz
Juliette: 9lb, 0oz

Beckett had another week where his eyes improved! Right after the exam, they weaned his RAM and said their plan is to wean more regularly - up to twice a week. He went down to a level of 9 and has to get to 6 in order to start oral feeds, so potentially soon! To help him hit the ground running, we started non-nutritive breastfeeding. I pump, then let him nurse while he’s getting fed through his NG tube. He isn’t getting anything more than drops of milk, but he is getting to practice latching and associating that with getting full. We’ve only done it a couple times so far, but he has been doing great! He LOVES his pacifier and does such a good job with keeping it in that he was able to pick up on latching really quickly. Dan and I were both really proud of him and we are hopeful this will help with the eventual move to oral feeds.

Beckett became one of the easy babies in Bays 2&3 - a doctor referred to him as her “best cruiser” because he is basically just growing, eating, and cruising along. In fact, he has been doing so well that they moved him to the Children’s Hospital NICU! This is really great for our family because we’ll have more space in his room, which will be very convenient now that we travel with a big stroller and lots of accessories. Dan was at the football game last night with family and was able to wave to Beckett’s room from the stadium.

Juliette has still been having some tummy issues, which has made her very cranky. It has gotten a little better than when she first got discharged, but it has still been pretty difficult. She usually feels better with some snuggles, so we have been prioritizing that. She also has lots of appointments, which has been keeping me busy as Dan continues to try and save his parental leave for when the babies come home. It has given us a glimpse into just how chaotic things will be with follow up and specialist appointments for two babies. We will definitely be relying on our support system a lot.
