Beckett made it to nasal cannula last week! His oxygen flow is still a little high to go home on, but they are planning on weaning it when his eyes make some progress. He has been stuck at the same ROP numbers for a while (zone 2, stage 2), but they see a tiny bit of improvement each week. He is still working on eating, but that’s also a slow process. He is up to 6 of 8 oral feed attempts per day. If he’s ready to go home based on all other facets, he could potentially be sent home with his nasal feeding tube until he gets the hang of 100% oral feeds. Eyes and feeding are the two things that slow down progress the most, so we’re just being patient. They’ve also started weaning Beckett on to a formula that he now gets 4 of his 8 feeds per day.
Juliette has been steadily gaining weight, almost an ounce per day, despite us still trying to find a formula that agrees with her system. She enjoys her stroller rides to see little-big brother at the hospital everyday.
The twins have been getting so big and loving playtime! We got some toys and a play mat from physical therapy, so we have been putting both babies together on the floor and playing. It has been really nice to interact with them more and let them interact with each other (even though they refuse to look at each other at the same time). I have also recorded myself reading a few books, which the music therapist at the hospital loaded on to an iPod that the nurses play for Beckett when we’re not there.
